Once you create your new document, you are not stuck with the setting you chose. In fact, almost all of your document settings can be edited at any time.
In this tutorial, I am going to show you how you can change the margins on your Affinity Publisher document.
In this example, let’s say I have a document set up with half an inch margins all around. Now I’ve decided that i want to adjust this after i’ve started working on my document.
How to change the margins
- With the Move Tool selected, go to Spread Setup in the contextual toolbar (you can also find this from the File Menu–>Spread Setup)
- In the pop up window, click on the Margins Tab
- Make your changes by typing the new margin dimensions in the boxes and click OK
When you enter your new dimensions, if you have the little chain link to the right of the margin dimension boxes clicked on, you can just type in one of the boxes and all four will change to that value.
If you want to change just a single margin area – let’s just say the top then unclick the little chain link icon and then you will be able to change each margin separately.
I can also change the color of my margin guides here. Maybe I want to make it hot pink instead.
You can also use the little checkbox on this tab to toggle the margins off and on. The little box is to the left of the words “Include Margins.” It’s not really very visible in dark mode like I am using.
Troubleshooting Tip: So if you’re trying to click in the margin dimensions boxes and nothing’s happening, you have to check on the include margins box.
But wait, here’s another way to edit margins:
In most graphic software like this there’s more than one way to do things, so let me just show you one more way.
- From the View menu, scroll down to Guides Manager and click on it
- In the window that pops up, you will also be able to edit your margins values and change the colors
The main difference with this one is that we don’t have that little chain link, so we do have to type each box individually. And that’s it.
